Ultra-Fine Particle Filtration: A Game Changer in Air Quality

Aero Fresca’s Cirqulair technology stands out from traditional HEPA filters by targeting not only coarse and fine particles but also ultra-fine ones. While HEPA filters typically focus on larger particle sizes, Cirqulair addresses the vast majority of airborne particles, including those that can penetrate deep into the respiratory system and pose significant health risks.

Ron Polli, President of Aero Fresca Inc., shares his experience: “When I first got involved with air filtration, I was amazed at how nanometer-sized particles were ignored. Coarse particles make up 1%, fine particles are 9%, and ultra-fine particles represent 90% of the total airborne matter. How can 90% be ignored? Look on any retail air filter box, and you’ll find the statement—captures 99.97% of all particles. It may or may not continue—for particles 1 micron and larger. Unless the customer has a science background, they probably don’t know about nanometer-sized particles. You’ll never see the truth spelled out: ‘We collect 99.97% of particles down to 1 micron, which represents only 10% of the overall particle matter. The other 90% will pass through this filter.'”

Even the highest standard for indoor air, ISO Level 1, allows for 10 particles of 1 micron and no larger particles. The existence of smaller particles is acknowledged, yet not fully addressed. This oversight involves the majority of particle matter, which are also the most dangerous. These sub-micron-sized particles are the most lethal, with the ability to easily enter a person’s bloodstream. Coronavirus particles, for example, range between 70 and 90 nanometers, far too small for a HEPA filter to catch.

Polli explains: “The only way I can rationalize why an entire industry ignores these dangerous particles is because they can’t catch them. So, they pretend they don’t exist. Being new to this industry, I can say the biggest problem is we’re dealing with invisible matter. It’s the perfect example of ‘out of sight, out of mind.'”

Polli continues: “This is why I got excited about Cirqulair technology. It stands to be a disruptive technology that captures these nanoparticles and delivers pure, clean air for the first time ever. And it does all this in a single pass through the system.”

Indeed, this remarkable level of particle removal efficiency underscores the effectiveness of Aero Fresca’s air purification technology in providing clean and healthy indoor air. While testing at even smaller particle sizes presents challenges, the system’s capability suggests it may also capture particles smaller than 0.3 nanometers.

This advanced performance has wide-ranging implications across various industries and applications. Healthcare facilities, clean rooms, residential, and commercial buildings all benefit from the ability to effectively remove ultra-fine particles from indoor air. Improved indoor air quality directly translates to better health and well-being for occupants. Polli adds, “Our system’s advanced filtration capabilities have the potential to make a significant positive impact on public health and environmental quality.”
