In an exclusive interview with Digital First Magazine, Shibu shared his professional trajectory, insights on how the high tech industry is making a positive contribution to today’s world, personal hobbies and interests, future plans, words of wisdom, and much more. Can you please provide a brief overview of your background and experience in the IT consulting industry?

In my role as a global business leader at Genpact I lead the high tech business, focused on enterprise tech, semiconductors, and consumer electronics. I oversee the development and implementation of cutting-edge technology solutions, helping clients stay ahead in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. With over 25 years of experience in the professional services industry, I combine human expertise with digital capabilities to drive AI-embedded transformation initiatives, enhancing efficiency, agility, and competitiveness.

Previously, as Genpact’s COO for EMEA and the Americas, I led a team of 25,000 professionals in 22 countries, helping enterprises plan for change, innovate with the latest technologies, and drive measurable business value. I am passionate about leveraging broader ecosystem intellect to advance AI and digital transformation, creating value beyond the bottom line and contributing to societal progress.

What do you love the most about your current role?

I advocate for AI strategies that foster agility and responsiveness. For clients, I drive AI-embedded transformation initiatives to help them stay ahead of the curve.

For employees, I support continuous learning to ensure relevance and success. My focus is on driving benefits for clients, teams, and communities by embracing a larger purpose at work.

I promote a bold, collaborative, and curious ecosystem, advocating for a digital-first mindset to solve enterprise challenges. I support upskilling and reskilling programs to future-proof our talent and sustain client growth. It also develops soft skills like communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership, which are highly valued by employers like Genpact.

Vocational training is crucial for building a skilled, adaptable workforce. It aligns with industry needs and technological advancements, ensuring the next generation is prepared for a rapidly evolving job market while fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptability.

Is there a particular person who helped you get where you are today?

I am blessed to have mentors and coaches throughout my career. I truly believe in asking for help, feedback, divergent views, and coaching. We must always learn from our own and others’ mistakes and experiences. It will be unfair to name one person, as I have had the pleasure of learning from some of the best industry leaders in professional services and I am grateful to all of them.

If you could have a one-hour meeting with someone famous who is alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Nikola Tesla was a brilliant inventor whose work laid the foundation for modern electrical engineering. Which is in basically every technology-led product today! I would like to discuss his innovations, his vision for the future and his thoughts on how technology can be used to improve society. His ideas were ahead of his time, and learning from his genius would be truly fascinating!

What does authentic leadership mean to you?

Authentic leadership means leading with integrity, transparency, and empathy while maintaining a strong sense of self-awareness and purpose. It involves fostering trust, empowering others, and committing to continuous improvement. Authentic leadership is also about being genuine and true to one’s values, making ethical decisions, and building meaningful relationships to drive the organization forward.

What are some of your passions outside of work?

Outside of work, I have a passion for staying active. I really enjoy exploring different walking trails in London or in cities where I travel to for work or pleasure with family. It’s a great way to disconnect from the hustle and bustle. I also enjoy strength training, which helps me keep the high energy levels which I need to be who I am. Besides physical activities, I enjoy reading about the newest technology trends, advancements, and its applications. I like to cover a broad range of topics to help me stay relevant in conversations. These activities help me maintain a balanced lifestyle and recharge my energy.

What is your biggest goal? Where do you see yourself in five years from now?

My primary goal is to become a respected voice on AI in business. I aim to build expertise and share insights on leveraging AI’s full potential while managing its challenges. In five years, I see myself as an established industry leader, supporting AI-driven business transformations.

What advice would you give to somebody who is considering entering your field or has just entered the field?

A career in professional services is like stepping onto a dynamic stage with evolving scripts and shared spotlights. The industry constantly changes with new technologies, business models, and strategies. Stay curious, keep learning, and embrace adaptability and resilience. Focus on creating value, whether streamlining processes, enhancing customer experiences, or implementing new technologies. Let ambition drive you forward, and humility keep you open to new learnings. Be confident, but always seek advice and acknowledge others’ contributions.
