Recently, in an exclusive interview with Digital First Magazine, Osvaldo shared insights on what drives his passion for AI, analytics, and innovation, the secret mantra behind his success, personal hobbies and interests, future plans, words of wisdom, and much more. The following excerpts are taken from the interview.
Hi Osvaldo. What drives your passion for AI, analytics, and innovation, and how have you seen these fields evolve over your career?
My passion for AI, analytics, and innovation stems from a lifelong fascination with the power of data to drive transformative change. Over the course of my 18-year career, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing the rapid evolution of these fields, from the early days of data warehousing and business intelligence to the rise of sophisticated machine learning algorithms and the emergence of cutting-edge AI-powered solutions. What excites me most is the opportunity to harness these technologies to solve complex challenges and unlock new avenues for growth and innovation.
What do you love the most about your current role?
In my current role as Chief Data & AI Officer at CSU Digital, I love the ability to bridge the gap between technology and business strategy. I relish the challenge of translating abstract data insights into tangible, high-impact initiatives that drive real value for our organization and our clients. It’s incredibly fulfilling to work alongside a talented, multidisciplinary team and collaborate on pioneering solutions that redefine the boundaries of what’s possible.
What are some common misconceptions or myths about AI and data analytics that you’d like to debunk?
One of the most persistent myths about AI is that it will inevitably lead to mass job displacement. While it’s true that certaing tasks will become automated, I firmly believe that AI is a powerful tool for augmenting and empowering human capabilities, not replacing them. When implemented thoughtfully and with a focus on ethical practices, AI can free up employees to focus on more strategic, creative, and high-value work. Similarly, many sill view data analytics as a purely numbers-driven exercise, when in reality, it’s about uncovering compelling narratives and surfacing actionable insights that can transform business decision-making.
How do you see the field of AI and data analytics evolving in the next 5-10 years, and what implications does this have for businesses and organizations?
In the next 5-10 years, I envision AI and data analytics becoming increasingly integrated into the fabric of everyday business operations. Organizations will need to adopt a data-driven mindset and invest in upskilling their workforce to harness the full potential of these technologies. We’ll see a rise in the use of predictive analytics, automated decision-making, and hyper-personalized customer experiences. At the same time, the industry will need to grapple with critical issues around data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the responsible development of AI systems
How do you approach leadership, and what qualities do you believe are essential for effective leadership in the tech industry?
My approach to leadership emphasizes empathy, transparency, and a commitment to continuous learning. In the fast-paced and constantly evolving tech industry, I believe that the most effective leaders are those who can foster a culture of innovation, encourage risk-taking, and empower their teams to think creatively. It’s essential to build strong relationships, embrace diverse perspectives, and remain agile in the face of change.
You were recently recognized as one of the Top Chief AI Officers of 2025. Our readers would love to know the secret mantra behind your success.
The secret to my success, if I may call it that, is a relentless pursuit of knowledge and a willingness to challenge the status quo. I’m driven by a deep curiosity to understand the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in the field of data and AI. By continuously expanding my own expertise and staying at the forefront of industry developments, I’m able to provide strategic guidance and innovative solutions that help our organization stay ahead of the curve.
Is there a particular person you are grateful for who helped get you to where you are?
I don’t have a specific mentor but have learned from a diverse group of individuals, both executives and peers, who have shaped my journey. I also draw valuable insights from various books that have influenced my thinking. One person who particularly inspires me is Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, whose leadership and vision for technology resonate deeply with my own values and aspirations.
What are some of your passions outside of work? What do you like to do in your time off?
Maintaining a work-life balance can be challenging, but I’m actively working on it. I enjoy biking, reading, and spending time with my family. One of my goals for this year is to take a cooking course to improve my skills in the kitchen as well as to enhance my photography skills.
What is your biggest goal? Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
My biggest goal is to leverage my expertise in AI and data analytics to drive transformative change and create a more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable future. In five years, I see myself as a recognized thought leader in the industry, advocating for ethical AI practices, and leading initiatives that democratize access to these powerful technologies for businesses and communities of all sizes.
What advice would you give to organizations looking to leverage AI and data analytics to drive business transformation, and how can they get started on this journey?
For organizations looking to leverage AI and data analytics to drive business transformation, I would advise them to start by clearly defining their strategic objectives and cultivating a data-driven culture. It’s essential to invest in building a robust data foundation, upskilling employees, and fostering a spirit of experimentation. By partnering with subject matter experts and leveraging existing tools and platforms, organizations can accelerate their journey towards becoming truly data-driven and AI-enabled.
