What do you think are the most significant opportunities and challenges facing women in technology and leadership positions today?
The representation of women in technology and leadership roles is still far from where it should be. While women form a significant part of the workforce, they hold only about 25% of leadership positions in tech, and in data science, the numbers are even lower—women make up just 15% to 22% of professionals and less than 10% of decision-makers. These statistics highlight a persistent gender gap that must be addressed.
One of the biggest challenges’ women face in tech is underrepresentation at senior levels. Beyond representation, the gender pay gap is another pressing concern. Women in tech still earn less than their male counterparts, despite having similar qualifications and experience. As leaders, we need to address this by advocating for equal pay and ensuring fair opportunities for career growth.
At the same time, there are encouraging signs of progress. More women are entering data science, thanks to initiatives like Women in Data Science (WiDS), which promote inclusivity and mentorship. In my own team, I actively embrace diversity across two dimensions—social diversity, including gender, geography, and culture, and educational diversity, where professionals from different backgrounds bring varied expertise to solve complex problems. This approach has not only strengthened our team but also demonstrated that inclusion leads to real business impact. To truly close the gender gap, companies must take intentional steps: upskill and mentor women, provide leadership pathways, and create a work environment where everyone, regardless of gender, is seen, heard, and valued. If we get this right, we won’t just be supporting women in tech—we’ll be shaping a smarter, more inclusive future for the entire industry.”
